SkinCeuticals Silymarin CF

With June being Acne Awareness Month, we thought what better time than now to highlight our new skincare product from SkinCeuticals, Silymarin CF.

Taking over six years to develop, this breakthrough vitamin C serum was specifically formulated for oily and blemish-prone skin. The ingredients of l-ascorbic acid, ferulic acid, salicylic acid, and silymarin (milk thistle extract) all help to prevent oil oxidation. Which in turn lowers the possibility of breakouts. Aside from that, it can also significantly improve skin texture, clarity, radiance, and fine lines.

With all that SkinCeuticals Silymarin CF can do, it’s easy to see why it’s the perfect product for those dealing with acne. If you would like more information about this, or any of our other products, call 716-688-0020 or click here.

Woman vitamin C

Our skin is naturally built to repair, but sometimes things in our daily routine (ie. sun exposure) can still lead to premature skin aging and damage. That’s why regularly using a product containing vitamin C, an antioxidant that our bodies do not naturally produce, can be so beneficial.

As one of the best anti-aging ingredients out there, vitamin C is also a natural sun protectant. Because of this, we encourage our patients to apply it first thing in the morning. And regular use can even promote collagen growth! It is important to note, however, that vitamin C for the skin must be properly formulated. If not, the benefits will not be as significant. That’s why we like SkinCeuticals vitamin C antioxidants. Their line in particular goes through a rigorous development process that ensures optimal results (all of their vitamin C serums are backed by 30 years of antioxidant research and demonstrated efficacy in independent clinical studies).

As you can see, vitamin C is an essential ingredient in any skincare regimen. Call our office or click here to find out which of SkinCeuticals vitamin C serums is right for you.

SkinCeuticals Phyto Corrective Gel

The transition from the cold, harsh winter weather can be very tough on the skin. That’s why for the month of March, we decided to go green with our skincare in the form of the SkinCeuticals Phyto Corrective Gel!

The SkinCeuticals Phyto Corrective Gel is a soothing green gel serum that calms and hydrates the skin while improving visible redness. Containing hyaluronic acid, cucumber, thyme, and mulberry this product is the perfect moisturizer for those with sensitive, acne-prone skin. The cucumber and thyme help to soothe and calm the skin, while the mulberry helps to even the skin tone out. The skin is left looking noticeably refreshed and hydrated.

It’s a very popular option for patients after treatments like chemical peels, micro-needling, and Sublative RF Skin Tightening. “A lot of my patients use it after micro-needling,” says aesthetician Lauren Battaglia. “They love how it feels and it really makes a big difference minimizing the appearance of any redness that occurs after treatment.”

As you can see, the SkinCeuticals Phyto Corrective Gel is the perfect skincare product as we transition into spring. For more information, call us at 716-688-0020 or click here.

Cold temps, low humidity, harsh winds, and dry indoor heat are all common this time of year. All of which can deplete your skin of necessary moisture. This is why it is so important to use a product (or products) that provides lasting hydration. SkinCeuticals in particular offers a number of facial moisturizers that are great for just that! Some of our favorites include:

Woman in winter

  • Daily Moisture. A lightweight, long-lasting moisturizer that hydrates all while reducing the appearance of enlarged pores (for normal to oily skin).
  • Emollience. A great everyday moisturizer that combines natural extracts and essential oils to help restore and maintain daily moisture (for normal to dry skin).
  • Hydrating B5 Gel. An oil-free serum that combines vitamin B5 and hyaluronic acid. This helps to replenish moisture and restore radiance for a smoother complexion (ideal for acne-prone skin).
  • Metacell Renewal B3. A comprehensive daily moisturizer, that is specifically formulated to improve the appearance of early signs of aging on the skin.

As you can see, hydrating products can help immensely to combat the harsh elements of the season. For more information on the products above and to find out which is best for you, call us at 716-688-0020 or click here.

With the recent success of Todd Phillips’ Joker, it’s inevitable that more people will be wearing makeup for Halloween this year. However, it’s important to understand that when wearing makeup, proper skin care, and product use is important throughout the application process. Below, is a step-by-step guide to help.

Joker applying makeup

STEP 1: CLEANSE

Start out by cleansing the area where the makeup will be applied. We recommend using Skinceuticals Gentle Cleanser. This mild cleanser is effective in removing any excess oil or impurities, leaving the skin perfectly prepped for later applying the makeup.

Next, moisturize. Skinceuticals Hydrating B5 Gel is a great option, as the combination of hyaluronic acid and Vitamin B5 works wonderfully to enhance the skin’s moisture.

STEP 3: APPLY A PRIMER

Using a primer will help prevent makeup from fading throughout the night. Smashbox Photo Finish Primer is a perfect choice. A lightweight formulation that avoids all the ingredients that can clog pores and cause breakouts. It also does a good job of preventing dryness by helping the skin retain moisture.

STEP 4: APPLY MAKEUP

Whatever type of makeup your costume requires, make sure you are cognizant of the ingredients. Those containing artificial or synthetic fragrances, parabens or oxybenzone can be unsafe for your skin. Usually, the better the quality of the makeup, the better it will be. The Mehron Special FX Makeup Kit is the cream of the crop and a great option.

STEP 5: REMOVE MAKEUP

Initially, try makeup removing wipes. This should remove a majority of makeup. We suggest Honest Beauty Refreshingly Clean Makeup Remover Wipes. Then to get rid of the remaining, use a cleanser. Skinceuticals Simply Clean is the best one for this step.

Stretch marks, also known as striae, are a type of scarring that occurs on the skin due to a sudden fluctuation in its size. This abrupt change causes the collagen and elastin to rupture, leaving behind narrow lines or streaks as the skin heals. Stretch Marks

Although they can develop anywhere on the body, they usually reside on the abdomen, breasts, and thighs. Stretch marks are most common in women after pregnancy, but they can also develop from rapid weight gain or loss.

When they first show up, they typically have a pinkish, red hue and may feel slightly raised. Eventually, that color will fade and they level off into the skin. Their appearance may improve over time, but as is the case with any scar, they are permanent.

There are some products and treatments however that can make stretch marks less noticeable. They include:

  • Ceramide Moisturizer. This will help hold the skin together and retain moisture.
  • SkinCeuticals C E Ferulic. This vitamin C serum helps to improve the appearance of fine lines by firming the skin.
  • Micro-needling. This cosmetic procedure uses a bunch of tiny needles to make small perforations to the skin to induce collagen production. This in turn plumps up the skin and reduces the appearance of fine lines.
  • RF Skin Tightening. A noninvasive treatment that heats the under layers of skin to stimulate collagen, causing the skin to look fuller and tighter.
  •

With any of these options, it is important to be patient and understand that results will not be seen immediately. If stretch marks are something that is bothering you, contact our office today to see what options are best for your situation specifically.

As discussed in a past post, acne is a common skin condition that affects millions of people. Although it may only appear on the skin, the effects can go much deeper. Many sufferers deal with anxiety, depression, and low self-esteem. With the start of the school year, those problems are only amplified.

So, what exactly causes acne and what can you do to control it? We recently sat down with our aesthetician Lauren Battaglia and asked her just that. Here’s what she had to say…

“Acne occurs when the pores on the skin become blocked with oil, bacteria, and dead skin cells.  This causes the inflammation that appears on the skin. Working as an aesthetician over the years, I have helped a number of patients with varying degrees of acne. I put them on a great regime of treatments and products.”

Some products that she says are the most effective for combating acne are as follows:

    • SkinCeuticals LHA Cleansing Gel – “This cleanser is great because it decongests pores, smooths out skin texture, and brightens the skin. A must for any skin care routine.”
    • SkinCeuticals Clarifying Clay Masque – “Amazing mask! I love, love, love it! It decongests the pores as well, removes excess oil and helps to calm the skin.”
    • SkinCeuticals Blemish + Age Defense – “One of my favorite serums! It’s oil-free and helps to reduce the formation of acne. It even improves clogged pores as well.”

Lauren also offers a facial specifically for acne. It consists of a deep, thorough cleansing and extraction that breaks down impurities, sebum, dead skin cells, and blackheads. “It’s really a must for teens or others struggling with stubborn acne,” she says.

With skin type and acne severity varying from person to person, certain products/treatments may work better for some than others. If you would like to meet with Lauren to discuss a customized skin care regime for yourself, contact our office today.

    hormonal breakouts

Throughout adolescence nearly every woman deals with acne breakouts of some kind. And a common misconception is that they will eventually go away later in life. Unfortunately, that is not true, and acne breakouts can occur at any age.

The main reason for them to occur beyond adolescence can be attributed to hormones, and in women in particular, their menstruation cycle. Prior to menstruating, an imbalance in hormone levels can stimulate the sebaceous glands which in turn produces excess oil. This causes the pores in the skin to become clogged, leading to inflamed lesions on the skin. These hormone driven breakouts typically occur on the lower part of the face, around the jaw or chin area.

Although these breakouts are internally influenced, topical treatments are important to ensure that the condition is maintained and does not worsen. SkinCeuticals Blemish + Age Defense is a great option because it helps decongest clogged pores and fight the formation of acne. Not only does it help with that, but it can also improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

For more serious hormonal breakouts, providers may recommend certain contraceptive pills. This is due to the fact they can regulate hormone levels and prevent stimulation of the oil glands in the skin.

Unfortunately, the relationship between hormones and breakouts will always be prevalent, but there are options to keep the condition under control. Contact our office today if you believe you are experiencing hormonal breakouts.
