FUT Hair Transplantation

FUT (Follicular Unit Transplantation), also known as the strip method, is a hair restoration procedure where hair-bearing skin is removed from the back of the scalp (donor area) and transplanted to areas of hair loss (recipient area).

As the strip on the back of the scalp is harvested, it is given (in sections) to a team of specially trained technicians that carefully dissect it into what are called grafts. Grafts are segmented into two types; micro and mini-grafts. Micro-grafts contain 1-2 hairs while mini-grafts contain 3-4 hairs. After the grafts are dissected, they are then strategically transplanted into recipient sites made by the physician. The placement must be done very carefully. Improper site placement can damage existing hair follicles and/or leave noticeable scarring. This is why the skill of the physician and staff is of the utmost importance.

This procedure is an outpatient procedure, done under local anesthesia, right at our office. It can take anywhere from 6-8 hours to complete.
