Ways to Keep Your Skin Clear for Acne Awareness Month

Acne Awareness Month WomanJune is Acne Awareness Month, which means it’s the perfect time to highlight the all-too-common condition and promote clear skin. So, how can you make sure your skin is in tip-top shape? We put together a list of some of the best ways to do just that:

  • Avoid picking at existing acne. This can make it even more noticeable and painful, possibly leading to infection and even permanent scarring.
  • Wash your face twice daily. Use a gentle cleanser with lukewarm water (once in the morning, then again at night time).
  • Exfoliate before washing. Doing this before washing will help to remove dead skin cells and debris from the skin (which the cleanser will then take care of thereafter).
  • Don’t wash too much. Washing your face too much can cause irritation which can lead to even more breakouts.
  • Use a moisturizer. Apply immediately after washing. This can be especially helpful when using topical acne medications which tend to dry out the skin.
  • Wear sunscreen. Aside from the obvious reason to use sunscreen, they also can help reduce redness associated with acne as they contain ingredients that have anti-inflammatory properties.
  • Limit time in the shower. Too much time spent in the shower can strip the skin of necessary oils leading to a potential increase in breakouts.
  • Get a HydraFacial. The nourishing topical solutions infused into the treatment help to destroy acne-causing bacteria and minimize any present inflammation.

If these options don’t clear up your acne, a more aggressive approach may need to be taken. At Lisa Ball, NP, we offer a variety of skin care services to give you clear, beautiful skin. Click here or call (716) 688-0020 today!

Woman with clear skinAcne is a common skin condition that affects over 50 million people in the United States. It is usually seen in teens and young adults but can occur across the lifespan. So, what can you do to get clearer skin? The answer is simple, the HydraFacial.

What is the HydraFacial?

The HydraFacial is a facial treatment that utilizes patented vortex technology to gently exfoliate, cleanse, extract, and hydrate the skin.

How does it help with acne?

The exfoliating tip with the suction helps to remove any debris and cleanse oily, congested skin. In addition, the nourishing topical solutions infused into the treatment help to destroy acne-causing bacteria and minimize inflammation.

When can results be seen?

Results are noticeable after just one treatment. However, depending on the severity of the acne, it may take a series of treatments for significant improvement.

Is it suitable for all ages?

Yes. All skin types as well.

Why choose the HydraFacial over another treatment?

In comparison to microdermabrasion, it is much gentler on the skin. And unlike traditional facials, it’s performed by a handheld device which allows for deeper penetration and longer-lasting results.

Although acne can be one of the more difficult skin conditions to treat, there is hope with the HydraFacial. To learn more about it, contact the acne treatment specialists at Lisa S. Ball, FNP today.

Summer WomanWith Summer officially around the corner, even warmer weather is on the way. But for those who are prone to acne, that is not necessarily a good thing. The reason is that during this time more sweat and oil are produced. This, in turn, can lead to more breakouts.

So, if you are one of the many who suffer from acne breakouts, what can you do? One of our favorite treatments for the condition is the HydraFacial with the ZO Skin Health Rozatrol Booster. This supercharged treatment not only helps to manage oil production but also soothes the appearance of red, sensitized skin as well. Immediately after treatment, the skin is left with a noticeably clearer, radiant glow.

If you deal with acne breakouts and are ready to say goodbye to them, we here at Lisa S. Ball, FNP can help! Schedule an appointment with us today.

As discussed in a past post, acne is a common skin condition that affects millions of people. Although it may only appear on the skin, the effects can go much deeper. Many sufferers deal with anxiety, depression, and low self-esteem. With the start of the school year, those problems are only amplified.

So, what exactly causes acne and what can you do to control it? We recently sat down with our aesthetician Lauren Battaglia and asked her just that. Here’s what she had to say…

“Acne occurs when the pores on the skin become blocked with oil, bacteria, and dead skin cells.  This causes the inflammation that appears on the skin. Working as an aesthetician over the years, I have helped a number of patients with varying degrees of acne. I put them on a great regime of treatments and products.”

Some products that she says are the most effective for combating acne are as follows:

  • SkinCeuticals LHA Cleansing Gel – “This cleanser is great because it decongests pores, smooths out skin texture, and brightens the skin. A must for any skin care routine.”
  • SkinCeuticals Clarifying Clay Masque – “Amazing mask! I love, love, love it! It decongests the pores as well, removes excess oil and helps to calm the skin.”
  • SkinCeuticals Blemish + Age Defense – “One of my favorite serums! It’s oil-free and helps to reduce the formation of acne. It even improves clogged pores as well.”

Lauren also offers a facial specifically for acne. It consists of a deep, thorough cleansing and extraction that breaks down impurities, sebum, dead skin cells, and blackheads. “It’s really a must for teens or others struggling with stubborn acne,” she says.

With skin type and acne severity varying from person to person, certain products/treatments may work better for some than others. If you would like to meet with Lauren to discuss a customized skin care regime for yourself, contact our office today.

As described in a previous blog post, “Don’t Stress about Acne,” acne is a common skin condition that effects millions of people. Although it is unclear as to what exactly causes it, there are some things you can do to improve the condition and get on the path to clearer skin.

Cut down on processed foods, especially ones with a high salt content. Too much salt can dehydrate the skin, which in turn, can make it tougher to get rid of acne.

Avoid drinking or eating too much alcohol, cheeses, or other dairy products.

Drink more water. Drinking water hydrates the skin by flushing out toxins, bodily waste, and germs that are trapped within it.

Cut down on your caffeine intake. Caffeine can increase a stress hormone which in turn can cause glands to over produce oil. This can then lead to clogged pores which means more acne.

Family Guy Acne

Acne is a common skin condition that effects people of all ages. It is characterized by pimples, blackheads, or whiteheads that usually reside on the face, chest, or back.

Aside from the appearance of the condition, it can actually have just as much of an impact psychologically. Some who experience acne develop low self-esteem and even depression.

Although it is unclear exactly what may cause acne; stress, diet, and hormones can all be contributors. Currently there is no cure for acne, but there are many different treatment options available. Be aware that as with many treatment plans for acne, it may actually get worse before it gets better.
